For a few weeks, it almost looks like cheating.

  • I limit the scope of AI to specific sub-tasks: sentiment extraction, NLP parsing, volatility clustering—not decision-making.

  • I validate every signal with domain expertise before deployment.

  • I test robustness in market regimes the model wasn’t trained on.

  • And most importantly?
    I remind myself: Markets are made of humans, not just data.
    If your AI can’t account for fear, greed, and irrationality, it’s trading in a vacuum.

You’re going to see a lot more headlines like “AI Outperforms Wall Street” and “The Future of Hedge Funds is Neural.”

They’re sexy. They sell.

But if you’re actually in the trenches building systems, testing models, or risking your own capital, you owe it to yourself to ask what no one else is asking:

What happens when the model breaks—and you can’t explain why?
